Autonomous Systems

Enabling robots and vehicles to navigate the world on their own

The autonomy collaboratory studies technologies for perception, planning and control, as well as the integration of systems into complete applications for air-, sea- and ground robotics using both single and multi-agent configurations. Example applications include patrolling, fire detection, domestic robot systems, and autonomous vehicles (micro-mobility, cars, underwater vehicles, and drones).
Research will include construction of models of the environment using mapping and estimation; planning of effective strategies for operation with partial knowledge; and design of control methods for robust operation in the presence of noise. Researchers also plan to provide effective interfaces to users, from bystanders, to operators and supervisors.
